I saw film Mirja Galib on Black and white Doordarshan way back in 1979, in that film Smt Suriaya acted and sang songs. That time i was not aware of that there was another star in the film? That star was none other Smt Roshan Kumari ji, Kathak dance exponent of that time. She is daughter of Zohrabai Ambalewali, as i read somewhere. Zohrabai was also a famous singer of her times. there were two Zohrabai. I dont know but whether those two ZohraBais are same or not. The one who sang in few Hindi films i.e. RATAN.
When I started learning Kathak myself then only I got to know many stars of Kathak. Once I saw the Jalsaghar a film made by Shri Satyajit Ray, the Bharat Ratna of Indian Films on Black and white Doordarshan. In that film the star performer Begum Akhtar sang and appeared on screen. It must be magic and capability of Shri Satyajit Ray that She accepted to sing and appear in film. He was a great creative mind in our India. There was a dance by Smt Roshan Kumari ji in film Jalsaghar.
